LONG LOST MOVIES
I have come across some of my old movies from when we first arrived but as they were on tape until now I have not digitalised them. I had not seen most of them since 2003 so they now have added value of showing Benalmadena and Arroyo de la Miel before a lot of the construction we have now taken for granted.
In march 2003 there was a storm that caused more damage than I have seen since. These clips were taken around the Puerto Marina on first the Torremolinos side and then Benalmadena side. The “Maracas beach bar” was under construction and the sea was threatening to destroy it before its completion. So a low loader lorry was brought in and delivered (by crane) the interlinking blocks that would be used to separate the carriageways of a motorway to crate a wall around the bar to hold the sea at bay. You can see how successful this was towards the end of the clip when we returned in daylight.

The closing clip is of the Paseo at Playa Santa Ana where all the restaurants and bars were flooded and filled with sand. Amazingly most of them were reopened within a week. The same storm completely destroyed the garden area on the beach at Malapasquera (the beach below Plaza de Ole) bringing down all the palm trees and washing away the footpaths. There may be another tape of that but I cannot find it yet.
Photographs of Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena before the tourist boom are hard to find. This is an assemblage of those that we have uncovered, some with more modern pics taken from the same point. If you have any you would like to share please send them to me webmaster@benal-life.com
