SOME OF THE HISTORY OF THE PREMISES

From Six Separate Venues to Mullarkey’s

The story of Mullarkey’s is also the story of how one small stretch of neighbouring bars and businesses gradually became the place it is today.

In the years leading up to 2008, what is now Mullarkey’s was actually made up of six separate premises. Starting from the left, there was The Sand Bar, followed by an agency, then the well-established Bar La Notte — better known to many British visitors as The Wolves Bar. Next came Lynne and Tino’s popular LJ’s Bar, with the final two premises occupied by Buzby’s Cabaret and Karaoke Bar.

Over the years, the names and faces began to change.

By 2012, The Sand Bar had become La Pirata de Tapas, LJ’s had closed, and Buzby’s had evolved into Mad Terry @ Buzby’s.

By 2014, La Pirata de Tapas had changed again, becoming Ollie’s Scottish Pub, while the former Wolves Bar was trading as Taberna Porrones.

Then came the biggest change of all.

In August 2015, Mullarkey’s arrived in style, taking over all but Ollie’s and bringing most of those once-separate premises together under one name.

The story continued in August 2019, when Ollie’s and its neighbouring premises became Biddy’s, a food annex to Mullarkey’s and the final piece in the transformation of this familiar row of venues.

Today, in 2026, the entire collection is still going strong. Every summer the doors open, the terraces fill and the place comes alive once again — carrying with it almost two decades of names, characters, memories and stories.

Six premises. Countless memories. One Mullarkey’s.
