A Chameleon’s Customer writes: –
Don’t be deceived by the frontage. The notice board at the door declares “We are A Tardis” and this is indeed true. Pass through the front doors into the drinks area, with fully equipped bar, then enter the Restaurant proper and prepare to be amazed.
A large high room with roof beams an open fireplace on the back wall, the sides fully glazed but enough places to accommodate approximately 80 diners! Staff that work together as one. And a Chef who, as co-owner with his wife, has a vested interest in ensuring that your food is “just as you like it”.
As well as this large dining room there is a small-enclosed Garden Terrace at the rear for diners who prefer the “open air”, and when it gets really busy the front terrace doubles as an additional dining area. I am not a connoisseur on food but I can assure you, the preparation, cooking and service is amongst the highest to be found. Don’t tell my wife, but I sometimes pop in alone to partake of my favorite dish – the Beef Stroganoff. We have dined at Chameleons singly, as a couple, a group of 12 and as part of a wedding reception of 78 – and have never found a single reason to fault the food or the service. A highly successful move from their previous premises in Arroyo, which has proved that Bigger really is Better!
And here is the review from THE GRUB SPY published soon after we moved to our current premises:
Now that Chameleons have moved to their much larger premises, we gave them a few weeks to settle in and paid them a visit. Walking into their new restaurant was a very pleasant surprise and the variety and quality of the food was superb.
Booking – We would recommend pre-booking as it can get very busy.
On Arrival – We were greeted & seated promptly. Menus & drinks were delivered quickly.
Decor – Indoors – Beautifully decorated in a rustic fashion with a vaulted ceiling. Very comfortable seating and spacious surroundings.
Outdoors – Large comfortable Rear and Front Terrace mostly used in warmer months.
Menu – Excellent international menu with all dishes cooked to order.
Also very good choice Menu of the Day.
Wine Menu – Comprehensive wine menu, something to suit everyone.
The Food – Generous Portions of Great Tasting Food We chose four different meals, two A La Carte and two from Menu of the Day and all tasted as good as they looked.
Value – Not the cheapest restaurant but the quality speaks for itself.
Great value on Menu of the Day.
The Final Word – Not a lot we can suggest that would improve this restaurant, great food, great atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff. Only one thing we could add is that we would love to see a curry on the menu, Chris.

Review 17 was posted on | September 5, 2011 | In my view Chameleons was unsurpassed in Benalmadena but has been closed since May 2011 due to owner Chris’s ill-health Just heard that he and Wilma are coming back to Benalmadena and opening a restaurant but I don’t know if the premises/name will remain the same. Still it’s great news for lovers of good quality food. |

after visiting on | January 9, 2011 | I have been to Chameleon’s several times now, and I think it’s fair to say it’s my fave in Benalmadena Costa! Their menu del dia is fantastic. The lemon cheesecake is to die for, and it’s obvious that they make all the food there and fresh… NO packaged rubbish! Great place to go 🙂 |

after visiting on | October 26, 2010 | Good class of restaurant, fixed price menu is very good value, but the younger waitresses could be a bit more professional. ideal for the 40+ age group as it is “proper” dining |

after visiting on | August 24, 2010 | Terrace at the back of the restaurant is lovely – we thought the restaurant was empty until we went through to the back and struggled to get a table. Food was nice, nothing special, more like home cooked type food. Good size portions |

after visiting on | an unknown date | The restaurant has a very pleasant and uncrowded layout with an outside eating terrace area at the same level as the restaurant from which everything can be seen and a set aside smoking area. |

after visiting on | an unknown date | We continue to visit this restaurant every time we visit Benalmadena and are never disappointed.† From the outside it appears nothing special but inside it is a tardis. Very large, airy and spacious. We are not packed in. We prefer to sit in the terrace among the shrubs and flowers. The bar is always fully stocked and the house wine excellent. The owners, Wilma and Chris and their staff will do everything possible to ensure your comfort. Chris is the Chef and will tweak the menu to your personal tastes. I can’t rate the food high enough. It is freshly bought every day and cooked while you wait to the highest standard. Chris will personally visit your table to ensure all is well. This is old fashioned service that you long for. Best choice – Beef Stroganoff. We always book as we won’t risk the chance of being turned away. |
