THE AIRPORT

First things first - lets sort out Malaga Airport.  There are two telephone numbers - English speaking and helpful, one for arrivals and another for departures.

Arrivals

LLegadas

0034 952 04 88 38
0034 952 04 88 04

There is also a website that is now (eventually) a quick and accurate means of getting flight information, where you can search (in English) flight arrivals and departures by Flight Number - Airline - or Flight Times

CAR HIRE

We have found a few reliable Car Hire companies

Once you have hired a car we can help you get out of the airport complex and on the road to Benalmadena - Malaga Airport is located about 6km West of the Malaga city, just off the main Coast Road N340. When leaving the airport by car, and after the first roundabout, approaching the N340, the left hand lane takes you across the flyover goes to Malaga, and the Eastern Costa del Sol.  You need to take the right hand lane for Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, and all other points on the western Costa del Sol.

If you would prefer a pre quoted legal and fully insured chauffeur driven transfer take a look here at Benal-leisure's web site

THE TRAIN

Single (Ida)  -   Return (Ida y Vuelta)

TIMETABLES

We have waited a long while for this - but at last here is a link throught to RENFE with an interactive timetable easy to use and up to date

Click Here to go the the RENFE web site

There are two stations in Malaga centre, the first one you stop links with the main line RENFE station for trains to the rest of the country, and the last stop is Alameda in the heart of the shopping area.  However they are very close together and either will do for the centre of Malaga.

There is a second stop at Malaga airport, but it is only for the cargo section of the airport and best ignored for our purposes.

Plaza Mayor is a new complex of shops, restaurants and multi screen cinemas and is well worth a look. However check the timetable as not all trains stop there.

The Train Service runs along the coast from Malaga City Centre to Fuengirola It is a convenient and inexpensive service €1.20 single from the Airport to Arroyo de la Miel. Excursions out from Arroyo de la Miel can be fun with reasonable fares €1.35 adult single to Fuengirola, €1.20 to Torremolinos and €1.85 to Malaga.  Although prices are more expensive on Sundays and on Fiestas you would not notice unless you knew the weekday fares. Being a single track railway it is always on time. Timetables will change when the new second track is laid, and the service will double.

THE BUS

Buses are frequent and run up and down the coast with diversions to various urbanisations and also to Mijas Pueblo.

Route No.1 Malaga - Torremolinos - Benalmadena Costa.

Route No.16. Torremolinos - Benalmadena Costa - Arroyo de la Miel - Benalmadena Pueblo - Mijas Pueblo

Route No. 17. Torremolinos - Benalmadena Costa - Fuengirola using the coast road

Route No.34. Malaga - Torremolinos - Benalmadena Costa - Arroyo de la Miel - Benalmadena Pueblo - Mijas Pueblo

And as of March 1st 2006 there are the new Orange Buses that operate three very inexpensive routes around Benalmadena Costa and Arroyo de la Miel click here for the routes and the timetables.

TAXI'S

At the airport you can find a taxi right outside the arrival terminal door. There are always plenty, so there is no need to book or wait.  However be sure to ask how much the fare will be and if it is too high do not be afraid to ask another driver, he will have noted what happened and you will be sure of getting a more honest quote. Roughly Airport to Torremolinos 9 euros - Benalmadena Costa 14 euros - Arroyo de la Miel 18 euros - Fuengirola 23 euros.  There is a list posted on the wall of the terminal (near the taxi rank) and as the taxi's are not metered they carry a book of fares to all resorts and although reluctant will show you it if pressed.
