This is without doubt my favourite day trip, which I have covered in full on the Benal-Life days out pages click here and follow the links for pictures maps and detailed directions, it is well worth the effort.
If you take this trip please come back and let us share your experience.

Flamingoes

Postby webmaster » Tue May 30, 2006 9:08 am

For those of you taking this drive over the last few months it could have been spoilt by the drought which forced the flamingoes to leave. They are now back in their thousands as La laguna de fuente de piedra is back to 30% of its maximum level which is apparently just what the breeding birds need.
Put the trip back on you list

Drought

Postby webmaster » Sun Nov 18, 2007 9:45 am

I see that when I posted the message I note the the water levels in the reservoirs were low at 30% however this year they are down to just 23% of their capacity. 141 hectometres against 181.4 hectometres.

A hectometre is apparently 1000 sq metres

The drought it seems has forced the flamingos to desert fuente de la piedra this year. It has been reported that they have left deserting their nests a nd eggs due to the low water levels
