As a regular racegoer I agree Vern, and it is improving all the time they are spending a lot of money up there and really trying now.
remember that we have detail and printable maps on our own site at http://www.benal-life.com/daysout/daysout.htm

No Racing

Postby webmaster » Fri Mar 24, 2006 12:00 pm

I don't know quite what has happened, but I have just heard on the radio that all racing at Mijas and Seville has been cancelled from now until July. I will keep listening to try and find out the why's and wherefores

A statement was released last week According to which there would only be 8 days of racing this year in Mijas in the month of July and August. It was not made clear the real reason behind the decision although speculation suggests that they are trying to force the horse owners of Andalucia to take their horses up to Madrid for racing, as at the moment they have very few horses for the events.
Owners, trainers jockeys, bar and restaurant owners were shocked by the news that the racetrack would be closed down till July. The new racing season was to begin on the 25th of March and run till mid May.
But after a decision from the horse racing federation of Spain all racing at Mijas and Dos Hermanas in Seville were being suspended.

2007 Racing

Postby webmaster » Sun Feb 18, 2007 11:15 am

They have eventually announced calendar for 2007.
Winter (Doors open 10:00 am)

Feb - 25th - 28th (Mijas Cup)

March - Sundays, 4th - 11th - 18th

Spring - Obviously the problems are still here - Call to check 952 59 27 00

Summer (Night Racing, Doors open 10:30 pm)

June - Saturday 30th

July - Saturdays, 7th - 14th - 21st - 28th - Plus Thursday 26th

August - Thursday 2nd and Saturdays, 11th - 18th - 25th.

Here's hoping that they can persuade enough owners and trainer to bring their horses back to Mijas to make these dates work

Thanks Vern for keeping us as up to date as possible, but they have printed and distributed nice glossy brochures and posters with the fuller list. But as we all know things can change
